November 2018 Youth Programs!




Kid's Knitting 101!    November 2, 9, 16, 30  4:00 PM     Madison Library 
Youth in third grade and older can learn to knit at the library! Pam Sinsel will teach the basics of knitting; three different cast on methods, knit stitch, purl stitch, how to read a basic pattern, and how to bind off to finish your project.  This is a four-week series. Students will learn to knit a dishcloth for their first project. Class size is limited. Registration required. Materials: Size 7 or 8 knitting needles. 100% cotton yarn (Sugar & Cream brand) will be provided. Note: light or bright colors are recommended. 

Lego Club   November 10  11:00 AM     Main Library All ages are welcome to come and build with us! Use our Legos or bring your own.  We have Lincoln Logs, tinker toys, Snap Bots, marble runs and new magnetic blocks! Registration required. 


Leaf Art and Waxing    November 14  4:00 PM Main Library and 

November 16 4:00 PM at Hanover Branch   
Bring your own fallen leaves and get creative!  Supplies provided.  All ages welcome, but please not that there will be hot wax at this program.  Registration required.


Movie: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them   November 15 5:00 PM   Main Library 
Celebrate the November 16th release of the 2nd movie in the Fantastic Beasts series by watching this one first! Rated PG-13 2 hrs 13min. Free Popcorn and Butterbeer! No registration required. 

1-2-3 Sign With Me! November 20, 27 and December 4 10:00 AM Main Library 

This signing time is for ages 6mo. - 35mo. and parent or caregiver. Learn some sign language for children in a fun easy to learn format.  Songs, rhymes, and fun with books. This class will meet for three weeks. Registration required. 

Carol Sing with Santa   November 24    5:00- 5:45 PM  Main Library

Visit with Santa and enjoy holiday refreshments, a reading of "Twas the Night Before Christmas", and caroling with Santa in the auditorium. Then, escort Santa to the City Tree-Lighting at the Broadway Fountain at 6:00 PM. 

Reading to Dogs!    November 28 3:30 - 4:30 PM and November 29 5:30-6:30 PM 

Main Library Would you like to meet a local dog and get some extra practice reading out loud?  A few friendly canines will be at the main library for two special reading programs! Call ahead to sign up for a 10-minute reading slot. Registration required. Call 812-265-2744

       Ornament Share!       Throughout November   Madison and Hanover Libraries

Do you love to create fun ornaments?  The library is looking for creative and unique ornaments to decorate our trees at the Hanover Branch Library.  Ornaments should be home-made but can be any type of mixed media: paper, plastic, wooden, knitted, crochet, etc. NO perishable or very delicate ornaments please. Patrons may share two ornaments per person. Fill out an ID Tag when you drop off your ornament/s at either library location. Beginning in December, ornaments will be displayed on our holiday trees at Hanover! Ornaments may be picked up after the Holiday Season in January from the Hanover Branch.

Mother Goose on the Loose August   September 4, 11, 18 10:00 – 10:30 AM    Madison Public Library 
This story/activity time for children 6mo. – 35mo. includes rhymes, songs, musical instruments and more for babies and toddlers and their caregivers.   This group meets for six weeks through September 18. Young Writers Workshop Sept. 4th (Tuesdays through Nov. 13)       4:00 PM        Madison Public Library
Creative writing guided by Dominique Battles of Hanover College.  This program is for kids in 4th, 5th, or 6th grade.  The program is ongoing. Join us for an hour of messy fun in the auditorium!  Recommended for ages birth to age eight but all ages are welcome!  This month features pouring liquids, Play-Doh fun and watercolor painting.  No registration required.

The library is throwing a slumber party for your stuffed animals!  All types of stuffed animals /toys are welcome. Each stuffed animal will receive an ID tag.  Children and parents are invited to breakfast on Saturday morning where we will share the fun activities their toys participated in during their stay.
